ประวัติหลวงปู่มหาศิลา
หลวงปู่พระมหาศิลาสิริจันโทมีนามเดิมชื่อ ศิลา นิลจันทร์ เกิดเมื่อ 14 ตุลาคม พ.ศ.2488 ขึ้น 8 ค่ำ เดือน 11 ปีระกา ปัจจุบันอายุ 78 ปี เป็นบุตรของนายแก่น และนางน้อย นิลจันทร์ บรรพชาเป็นสามเณรเมื่อครั้งอายุ 15 ปี ณ วัดธาตุประทับ และอุปสมบทสังกัดมหานิกายเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2509 ณ วัดบูรพาภิราม จ.ร้อยเอ็ด โดยพระสิริวุฒิเมธี (เจ้าคณะ จ.ร้อยเอ็ด สมัยนั้น) หลวงปู่พระมหาศิลาศึกษาปริยัติอย่างมุ่งมั่นจนสอบได้นักธรรมชั้นเอกและเปรียญธรรม 6 ประโยครับพัดเปรียญกับพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ร.9 เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2515 ณ วัดพระศรีรัตนศาสดาราม และได้รับหน้าที่เป็นพระอาจารย์สอนที่ รร.วัดนิคมคณาราม จ.ร้อยเอ็ด และรับหน้าที่เป็นพระที่สวดปาฏิโมกข์ในการลงอุโบสถของคณะสงฆ์ตลอดมา
เมื่อแตกฉานด้านปริยัติแล้ว หลวงปู่พระมหาศิลาได้จาริกแสวงบุญปลีกวิเวกไปหลายจังหวัด เช่น จ.อุดรธานี จ.หนองคาย จ.ชัยภูมิ ได้เดินธุดงค์ป่า ณ ภูเขา อ.สังคม จ.หนองคาย สู่ภูเขาควาย สปป.ลาว ในปี พ.ศ.2517 เดินทางไปกับหลวงพ่อบ้านชาติ วัดบ้านชาติ จ.ร้อยเอ็ด (มรณภาพแล้ว) ได้พบกับครูบาอาจารย์มากมาย เช่น หลวงปู่ทองมาถาวโร, หลวงปู่มหาบุญมีสิรินธโร, หลวงปู่ลีกุสลธโร และเป็นสหธรรมมิกกับครูบาอาจารย์หลายรูป เช่น หลวงพ่อสมานธัมรักขิตโต, หลวงปู่หนูอินทวัณโณ, หลวงปู่สมสิทธิ์รักขิสีโล, หลวงปู่ล้อมสีลสังวโร
หลวงปู่พระมหาศิลาได้ร่ำเรียนวิปัสนาและเรียนอักษรธรรมลาว อ่านหนังสือจากใบลานอีสานได้อย่างแตกฉาน และได้ศึกษาคัมภีร์ใบลานสายสมเด็จลุนจากสปป.ลาว หลายฉบับศึกษาจนแตกฉาน
ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ.2550 เป็นต้นมา หลวงปู่พระมหาศิลาได้ปลีกวิเวกหลายที่ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นป่าช้าร้างหลายแห่ง จนหลวงพ่อเจ้าอาวาสวัดโพธิ์ศรีสะอาดซึ่งเคารพนับถือท่านมากได้กราบนิมนต์ท่านมาจำพรรษาที่วัด โดยหลวงปู่ประสงค์จะปลีกวิเวก ณ สวนสงฆ์บ้านแกเปะ เหล่าศิษยานุศิษย์จึงร่วมกันสร้างกุฏิถวายหลวงปู่ศิลาได้จำพรรษาตลอดมา พระธรรมรัตนดิลก เจ้าอาวาสวัดสุทัศน์เทพวราราม ได้มีความเลื่อมใสในองค์หลวงปู่ได้นิมนต์ท่านขึ้นไปร่วมงานพุทธาภิเษกพระกริ่งวัดสุทัศน์ฯ และหลายวัดในภาคอีสานจะกราบอาราธนาหลวงปู่ไปร่วมปรกแทบทุกงาน เนื่องจากเหล่าศิษยานุศิษย์ได้ประจักษ์แก่สายตาเรื่องพุทธาคมวัตรปฏิบัติ ความเมตตา ความสันโดษ และเรื่องญาณหยั่งรู้ที่ท่านสามารถล่วงรู้เหตุการณ์ล่วงหน้าอย่างน่าอัศจรรย์
