DVARAVATI BUDDHA FIGURE BRONZE AMULET

An exquisite 18th Century Mon Dvaravati Buddha image depicted standing in the 'tribhanga' or Triple-Flexion posture, on a small plinth, with both hands positioned in the symbolic gesture of instruction, the Vitarka mudra, where the tip of the thumb is pressed slightly against the index finger, with the right hand raised as if bestowing a blessing.

He is wearing a smooth clinging diaphanous garment worn in the 'Closed Mode', covering both shoulders, which includes an undergarment draped lower than the rounded hem of the outer loin cloth, and with the presence of a belt is suggested by the slight bulge appearing at the waist line. 

His contoured face is highly detailed in a serene contemplative expression, with downcast eyes, ridged eyebrows connected above a prominent nose, smiling mouth and elongated earlobes. 

The head is covered by large snail-shell hair curls.

The reverse skillfully reflects the un-interrupted flow of his monastic garment and clearly emphasizes Dvaravati's A-sexual attribute.

Solid bronze cast, beautifully sculpture with intricate detailing, with a naturally age jade green patina covering the surface, and overlaying oxidation developing throughout.
